Eat Daddy’s founder wanted a clean, simple interface that could support multiple complex features — without overwhelming users. The goal was to make meal planning and grocery ordering seamless, even for people who don’t typically plan ahead. We needed to translate his business vision into a brand identity and UX/UI design that was approachable, organized, and easy to navigate.

To fully understand the vision, I held regular meetings with the owner to align on business objectives and the target audience. We explored user needs, mapped key journeys, and held creative reviews throughout the process.

I designed a system that allows users to:

  • Add and edit recipes
  • View recipe details
  • Add non-recipe items to their grocery cart
  • Save past grocery orders to quickly re-order ingredients
  • Place delivery orders directly through the app

By breaking down each flow and focusing on clarity and hierarchy, I was able to present multiple features in a digestible, user-friendly way.

We landed on a clean, minimal brand identity and interface that makes organizing meals and groceries simple. The final design balances functionality and ease, empowering users to focus on cooking rather than logistics. The owner was impressed by how seamlessly the complex features were laid out, and the design became a strong foundation for development.

This stir fry is packed with strips of beef steak, veggies, and saucy flavors for a weeknight dinner warrior that checks all the boxes.

  1. Add the uncooked pasta to a large pot (or pan with deep sides). Add the remaining ingredients – except for the spinach – and mix well. Bring the pot to a boil over high heat.
  2. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium low and cook the pasta for 10-14 minutes, until al-dente. Stir the mixture every 2 minutes to prevent anything from sticking to the bottom of the pan. (Note: cooking times will vary based on the type of pasta used. I suggest you start to check for doneness based on the minimum cook time on the package instructions)
  3. Turn the heat off and fold the spinach into the pasta. Once the spinach has wilted, divide the pasta into serving bowls and top as desired. This recipe is best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days. 

Notes

  • Pasta: this recipe will work both gluten-free and gluten-full pasta, so use what works for you! I suggest you use shorter pasta shapes (such as penne, rotini, shells, marcaroni) over longer noodles as they cook more evenly in this method. If you are using gluten-free pasta, I have found that brown rice pasta works best.
  • Vegetables: feel free to add, subtract, or substitute any of the veggies here!
  • 8 ounces dry pasta*, gluten-free or regular
  • 8 ounces grape or cherry tomatoes, cut in half 
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced 
  • 1/2 yellow onion, thinly sliced 
  • 1 small zucchini, chopped and quartered 
  • 3 oz cremini mushrooms, sliced 
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) 
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/4 cup pasta sauce of choice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 3 ounces fresh spinach

Designing a Seamless

Recipe-to-Grocery Experience

Eat Daddy is an app that helps home cooks save time by turning their favorite recipes into ready-to-order grocery lists. As someone who personally loves cooking (and spends hours planning every week), I was deeply passionate about designing this product. This project gave me the chance to combine my love of strategy, psychology, and design to create a user experience that feels effortless and intuitive.
